The parent of Sears and Kmart — Sears Holdings — is in a lot of trouble. Total revenue dropped $341 million to $9.7 billion for the quarter which closed April 30, 2011. The company had a net loss of $170 million. Sears Holdings was created by a merger of the parents of the two chains on March 24, 2005. The operation has been a disaster ever since. The company has tried to run 4,000 stores which operate across the US and Canada. Neither Sears nor Kmart have done well recently, but Sears' domestic locations same store numbers were off 5.2% in the first quarter and Kmart's were down 1.6%. Last year domestic comparable store sales declined 1.6% in the total, with an increase at Kmart of .7% and a decline at Sears Domestic of 3.6%. New CEO Lou D'Ambrosio recently said of the last quarter that, "we also fell short on executing with excellence. We cannot control the weather or economy or government spending. But we can control how we execute and leverage the potent set of assets we have. "Lou D'Ambrosio needs to pull a rabbit out of his hat soon"  Shares are down 55% during the last five years. D'Ambrosio's only reasonable solution to the firm's financial problems is to stop supporting two brands which compete with one another and larger rivals such as Walmart (NYSE: WMT - News) and Target (NYSE: TGT - News). The cost to market two brands and maintain stores which overlap one another geographically must be in the hundreds of millions of dollars each year. Employee and supply chain costs are also gigantic. The path D'Ambrosio is likely to take is to consolidate two brand into one — keeping the better performing Kmart and shuttering Sears.
We can't let Sears go down the tubes.
Do you know how many people will be out of a job and the added stress and hardship to the US economy if this happens? Like so many department stores Sears doesn't have any  marketing skills. Saul M. Detofsky wants to give Sears's CEO Lou D'Ambrosio the rabbit for his hat. LM concept will drive tens of millions of people into all the stores nationwide through the LM casting calls. Once the news media lets the hype out about Sears Stores implementing their own TV show and new business model their stock shares will skyrocket since the media publicity will give all Sears Brands millions of dollars free advertising. One or more stores in each city will conduct a LA / Hollywood type casting call (people professionally photographed and with makeovers) in each major metropolitan city starting first in Atlanta, GA. Once the news publicity is out the Sears Brands are doing a casting call it will attract many millions of people to the stores nationwide. Did you see the lines of people trying out for American Idol? All Sears stores have plenty of free parking for the tens of millions of new and old customers coming to each store's location for the LM casting calls. Tens of thousands of people in each city will be coming in without appointments to browse too. All Clients wanting to register without an appointment will be given a restaurant type pager alerting them when it’s their turn to go through the registration process. “Don’t be surprised if these new wannabe LM members browse and shop the store while they're waiting to be paged after seeing all the wonderful eyecandy at Sears & k-Mart  stores. It will be like a grand opening, once the word is out “single people go where single people are,” at Sears & K-Mart Stores. Sears can also bring in excited Sears vendors and other top TV media buyers wanting to cash in on the Sears LM TV Show excitement paying all the expenses for the LM broadcast. I predict LM will bring on Super Bowl media dollars after being broadcast on TV for one year. It's a proven fact [people want to stay connected to each other and be able to meet new friends. All winners from the Hot Pick Image contest are eligible for a casting calls to try out for all Sears future print & TV commercials too. All of Sears brands will derive many new benefits through this new social media marketing strategy marketing on TV and co-brand / co-advertise easily with no apprehension from the vendors supplying all the Sears stores.
